The AKC’s mission is to advance the study, breeding, exhibiting and care of purebred dogs. They also promote responsible dog ownership including training and pet care. The AKC is the oldest purebred dog registry in North America and has more than 1,700 affiliated clubs in the United States and Canada.
The AKC’s objective is to ensure that dogs are well-behaved members of society by educating owners on how to train them properly. They also have a set of guidelines for breeding dogs which includes standards for appearance, temperament and genetic health problems.
What are the AKC’s Rules and Regulations?
The American Kennel Club is the oldest and most prestigious dog registry in the world. They have established a set of rules and regulations that are followed by all AKC-registered breeds.
The AKC has three levels of classification for breeds:
1) Recognized Breeds: These are breeds that have been accepted by the AKC. They are allowed to compete in AKC events, such as agility, obedience, and conformation shows.
2) Companion Breeds: These are breeds that have been recognized by the AKC but cannot compete in any of their events due to their size or temperament.
3) Miscellaneous Class: This category includes toy dogs and mixed-breed dogs who do not meet any other criteria for classification as a recognized breed or companion breed.
